Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

MXP Tour Management is a comprehensive, end-to-end platform that streamlines the entire shore excursion lifecycle in one place. From creating and managing tours from vendor bidding to season planning, pre-cruise and onboard sales, dispatch operations, guest participation, feedback, and financial settlement – everything runs within a single, connected ecosystem. This ensures seamless data flow, real-time accuracy, and efficient collaboration for all stakeholders involved.

The solution is designed for both ocean and river cruise companies and supports teams working in headquarters and onboard vessels. With direct data replication across all installations, everyone works with the same up-to-date information.

MXP supports a wide range of shore excursions, including cruise line–operated tours, vendor-operated tours, special arrangements, single and multi-days tour, tours offered during the course of the cruise as well as pre or post-cruise packages.

Each tour template can be categorized differently for reporting purposes or for guest-facing/marketing presentations, and can be configured with its own pricing, capacity, vendor contract, and operational workflow.

MXP also supports complex itineraries, multi-port seasons, and port-specific offerings, giving Shore Excursion teams full control over which tours are available on specific dates, in a particular port, and on different ships.

Tour Programs acts as a single configuration hub for all tour template information, such as tour descriptions, photos, pricing, booking rules, creation rules, based on date ranges/validity dates. MXP supports centralized administration of tours, pricing, and vendor management across the entire fleet, ensuring consistency and reducing repetitive tasks.

Tour Program Block Management is where departure times, capacities, etc. are managed based on the ship’s itineraries. Updates are reflected across the fleet and across all booking channels, ensuring consistency and eliminating duplicated data maintenance.

MXP streamlines cooperation with tour operators through digital workflows. Operators can submit bids for upcoming seasons, confirm or update tour blocks during verification. Cruise lines can review, approve, or request changes, ensuring all tour data is accurate before it becomes available for booking.

MXP provides real-time control over tour availability, automatically tracking sold seats, remaining capacity, and overbooking rules. Waitlists are updated automatically, promoting guests when space becomes available, and staff can manually adjust quantities to be sold or prioritize bookings as needed to ensure smooth operations and optimal resource utilization.

MXP enables cruise lines to manage pricing on two levels. For guests, promotional sales discounts or cruise fare type-based adjustments can be applied on demand, ensuring attractive and flexible pricing at the point of sale. For tour operators, tiered pricing logic and automated mark-ups allow the cruise line to control costs and apply the best rates based on demand and agreements. All changes are reflected in real time across all sales channels, ensuring accurate guest pricing while optimizing revenue and operator payments.

Guests can book excursions through multiple integrated channels:

  • MXP365 web app (Prior to a cruise & onboard ship)
  • Kiosks onboard ship
  • In-stateroom iTV onboard ship
  • Shorex desk with live availability onboard ship

All channels access the same central data, ensuring synchronized availability and pricing.

Excursion tickets can be fully digital or printed in various formats and layouts. Digital tickets may be accessed via MXP365 and stored on the guest’s ship stateroom card, while the Mobile Tour Dispatch App allows Shore Excursion staff to quickly see whether a guest has purchased the tour. (Printed) tickets can include various information such as meeting points, departure times, bus assignments, and any special instructions, ensuring a smooth guest experience and efficient operations.

MXP allows teams to react quickly to operational changes. Cruise Deviation wizard is most used during high/low waters season by River Cruise lines. For Ocean and River Cruises lines, tours can be swiftly moved to another port or another day, canceled, rescheduled, or adjusted in real time, with immediate updates to guest bookings and capacities. The system automatically manages waitlists, and pop-up alerts notify staff if changes create overlaps with other booked tours, helping prevent conflicts. Vendor orders and manifests are updated accordingly, and staff can manage last-minute capacity increases or reductions. This ensures smooth, controlled handling of unexpected operational events.

The Mobile Tour Dispatch App provides a fully digital dispatch workflow, enabling crew to scan guests into buses, manage bus assignments, track participation, handle last-minute changes and purchase new tour bookings directly on-site. Real-time updates flow back to MXP Core with synchronization of the app, providing complete operational transparency without paper-based lists. Passenger manifests are created within one click and updated in real time ready to be used during dispatch operation and to be shared with tour operators.

MXP automates the settlement process through built-in validation tools that compare booked quantities, actual participation, and contracted rates. Operators can submit invoices digitally, and finance teams can approve or dispute them based on verified service data. This ensures transparent, accurate, and timely settlements.

MXP provides a wide range of reports covering topics such as tour content, revenue and financials, guest bookings, feedback, and operational performance. Reports can be filtered and sorted by date range, ship, port, or destination, and are accessible both onboard and at the central office, giving teams full visibility to monitor performance, ensure consistency, and compare excursions across the fleet and different seasons.

The Tour Order Link and the Tour Block Verification link give operators real-time insights into confirmed bookings, group sizes, and upcoming departure details. This allows them to plan buses, guides, and equipment accurately and well in advance.

MXP Tour Management is fully connected to the wider MXP ecosystem. It integrates with:

  • Itinerary for scheduling tours
  • PMS for onboard charges, refunds, and guest data

This eliminates silos and ensures consistent, accurate data flow across all departments.
